Supporters argue they’ll use the money spent on pot as a gateway to better access to healthcare and treatment for their addictions.

The province has already licensed more than 200 producers to supply medicinal marijuana.

But now the British Columbia Liquor Distribution Branch wants to license up to four new producers a year.

On Monday, Health Minister Terry Lake wrote to the finance minister, which contains a list of retailers and distributors who wish to sell cannabis.

The public has 45 days to make their views known.

But the fight to have a supply of legal marijuana in the province has provoked criticism from some, even among supporters of the system.

‘It’s disgusting’

“This has been pointed out to you in the past: that you don’t approve of a product that has addictive qualities for people who have problem drug dependency,” said Harcourt.
