It’s heavy on automation, which is why it’s the fastest way to get started with digital photography. It’s also the easiest way to monitor and organize professional prints.

If you’re looking for a replacement for Lightroom, you can’t go wrong with Photoshop. Lightroom has more tools, but overall it’s a much less-powerful tool; Photoshop is more powerful and, in most cases, much faster. Photoshop is also powerful enough to let you do things with the finished photo that it’s too fragile to do with Lightroom.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve been a Lightroom convert. After 10 years of using Photoshop, I knew that I needed to go back to Lightroom to appreciate the improvements that have occurred in that program in the last 10 years. When I started using Lightroom, I was looking for the fastest way to deliver the finished product, and so I hoped to find it in Photoshop. I was sorely disappointed that I saw such a step backward from what I’d experienced when I started using Photoshop.

At times, it is best to create individual layers to represent each element in a scene. This can include individual elements that you want to be grouped together, such as people, and any other elements throughout the scene. You can also do this with groups, and that’s what we’ll discuss now.

These are the 5 most basic Photoshop operations that every beginner will need:

Use the Select tool to select part or all of an image.
Use the Move tool to drag elements around.
Use the Eraser tool to erase parts of images.
Use the Fill tool to select an area in an image and fill it with an existing color from your document.
