A new pop-up menu lets you select a blending mode, a filter, and a brightness and contrast adjustment on one tool. You can use the tool as a temporary blend mode in the Free Transform tool. Color Match is still a new feature, but it works quite well. With Color Match in Edit mode, you can click on any color in an image, and a series of other color swatches will appear to choose from. For example, clicking with a brush simply changes the brush color. In a painted layer or adjustment layer, you can use it to correct colors by specifying a color. This is a good way to make two images match. Props must be keyed in for this one to work, but on the latest version of Photoshop, it seems to be working well.

Layers still work in a matrix setup, which should make editing an image with multiple layers easy. The Workspace is similar to the Workspace in previous versions, but now has a shareable icon instead of being a hidden menu. The View and Navigation options are now under the tiny paintbrush icon (next to the File menu), and the new Camera button brings up a simple view of your image. One new option is what Adobe calls “Arrange”: the ability to move, resize, add and delete groups of shapes. Primary and secondary selections are easier to do: primary can use color, while secondary uses anything you’ve selected.

Now that you have a new layer in Photoshop, double click the layer (or select the layer directly) to open the Layer menu. Use the menu to change the order that this layer appears in a particular image.

Adobe’s family of products now includes a new photography solution called Lightroom CC. Applications in the collection include a color-grading application and a design/print workflow solution, making Lightroom far more than just a digital darkroom tool.

The current crop of Adobe tablet apps, which are also optimized for phone screens, are a hit with users. In addition, the creative app lineup for Androids, iOS, and Google Chrome just received double-digit update numbers.

At its most basic, the tool draws a path around an area of content that you want to mask or overlay. You can move the pen tool and the “paint bucket” tool will fill individually along this path with a color. When a new layer is added, it is typically filled with a white or transparent color. You can then move the objects in the layer (such as text, line art, or shapes) with the Move tool. This works on a path or freehand basis. You can rotate the path during the move method, including creating multiple paths that can be manipulated in combination. The larger the brush, the larger the area of color that is applied in the EXTRACT mode.

The Brush tool lets you modify your subject based on the way your eye naturally responds to color. It creates a geometric shape by selecting colors similar to those in your subject. In line with the Brush settings, you can manipulate the shape of the area you paint by adjusting its size, shape, and hardness (similar to how you paint on a canvas).

The Magic Wand is a great tool that allows you to easily select objects in the image (and even save your selection). Basically, the Magic Wand includes three choices: a) auto-selects colors, b) auto-selects from color/black, or c) “jump to color.” With these choices, you can choose to select only colors or only darks or lights in your image.

3D image editing is a sort of magic. Photoshop can do it, and it sure can do it. But today, when you look at the software industry, the native 3D capabilities of Photoshop and the tools for working in 3D are not very friendly.
