Dalton State to Host New Faculty in French (2015-11-24)

DALTON, Ga. – The University of West Georgia invites the community to welcome its newest French faculty member when Farida Karim begins as the new assistant professor of French in October.
Karim, who holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California and a master’s in French literature and culture from the University of Texas at Dallas, has been affiliated with the university since 2014.
Karim’s position is endowed with a five-year, $50,000 grant from the university.
The university, whose primary language is French, is also home to the first-ever graduate-level French degree program at the institution.
“Dr. Karim’s experience and commitment to the French language are a great addition to our French Studies program,” said Dr. Lawrence Patterson, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “We are excited to be able to offer a second year of graduate study for future French majors.”
Karim has taught and tutored French for more than 15 years. Most recently, she taught the first year of French at UT Dallas.
“I am so excited to begin teaching at Dalton, and to be able to work and live alongside other French professors,” she said. “I am especially looking forward to giving my students a French experience that feels authentic to a French context.”
