There were concerns that the tiny girl wouldn’t survive, but Rohrbaugh’s daughter Maddison cried at birth, and is now a healthy 3-year-old with an unusual story to tell.
Rohrbaugh has been an infant and pediatrics nurse for three decades. She helped co-found the American College of Nurse-Midwives, and is a board-certified lactation consultant.
“She is an incredibly perceptive child, and you can be sure she picked up on all the issues that I had going through with the birth of this baby,” she said. “She watched my sleep deprivation, anxiety and stress. All of those things were visible in front of her. She watched her mom go through it.”
Rohrbaugh’s daughter and birth story are part of a new campaign by the American College of Nurse-Midwives that addresses weight and weight gain concerns around the start of school.
