But what is SAP CR Content and how can you download and import it? In this article, we will answer these questions and guide you through the process step by step.

What is SAP CR Content?

SAP CR Content is a collection of information about SAP components, such as software products, software components, software component versions, technical systems, business systems, and so on. This information is stored in XML files that are delivered by SAP and can be imported into your System Landscape Directory (SLD) or Landscape Management Database (LMDB).

SAP CR Content is important because it enables you to manage your system landscape more efficiently and effectively. For example, by using SAP CR Content, you can:

  • Identify dependencies and prerequisites for installing or updating SAP products
  • Plan and execute maintenance activities using Maintenance Planner or Maintenance Optimizer
  • Monitor and troubleshoot your system landscape using System Monitoring or Root Cause Analysis
  • Document and report your system landscape using Landscape Reporting or Landscape Verification

The files are named according to the format: CRDelta__.zip, where is the current version of your CR content and is the new version of your CR content. For example, if you have CR content 2019_03_1 and you want to update to CR content 2020_06_1, you need to download the file CRDelta_2019_03_1_2020_06_1.zip.

The following screenshot shows an example of the SAP CR Content download page with some files:

SAP CR Content download page

You need to select the appropriate files based on your current version and your target system. If you have more than one SLD or LMDB in your landscape, you may need to download different files for each system. You can also download the full CR content file, which contains all the information from the previous versions, but it is usually larger and takes longer to import. You can check the file size and description before downloading.

After selecting the files, click on Download Basket and follow the instructions to download them to your local computer. You may need to use a download manager, such as SAP Download Manager, to speed up the process and resume interrupted downloads.

How to Import the Downloaded SAP CR Content into the LMDB or the SLD

The final step is to import the downloaded SAP CR Content into your LMDB or your SLD. The LMDB is a central database that stores information about your system landscape and is integrated with SAP Solution Manager. The SLD is a separate application that also stores information about your system landscape and can be connected to SAP Solution Manager. Depending on your system configuration, you may have one or both options available.

The recommended way to import SAP CR Content is to use SAP Solution Manager Configuration (SOLMAN_SETUP), which is a guided procedure that helps you set up and maintain your system landscape. To access SOLMAN_SETUP, go to transaction SOLMAN_SETUP in your SAP Solution Manager system and choose System Preparation -> Step 3: Configure Automatically -> System Landscape Directory or Landscape Management Database.

The following screenshot shows an example of SOLMAN_SETUP with LMDB selected:

SOLMAN_SETUP with LMDB

In SOLMAN_SETUP, you can choose between two options: Import Automatically or Import Manually. If you choose Import Automatically, SOLMAN_SETUP will import the latest SAP CR Content from the SAP Support Portal directly into your LMDB or SLD. This option requires an internet connection and a valid user ID and password for the SAP Support Portal. If you choose Import Manually, SOLMAN_SETUP will ask you to upload the files that you downloaded previously and import them into your LMDB or SLD. This option does not require an internet connection but requires that you have downloaded the correct files for your system.

The following screenshot shows an example of SOLMAN_SETUP with Import Manually selected:

SOLMAN_SETUP with Import Manually

After choosing the import option, SOLMAN_SETUP will guide you through the steps of importing SAP CR Content into your LMDB or SLD. You can check the progress and status of the import in SOLMAN_SETUP and also in transaction SLDCHECK in your SLD system.

If for some reason you cannot use SOLMAN_SETUP, you can also import SAP CR Content manually using the SLD administration page. To do this, go to Administration -> Data Supplier -> Import Software Catalog in your SLD and upload the files that you downloaded previously. Then click on Import Data and wait for the import to finish.

The following screenshot shows an example of importing SAP CR Content manually using the SLD administration page:

SLD administration page with Import Software Catalog

How to Verify the Successful Import of SAP CR Content

The last step is to verify that you have successfully imported SAP CR Content into your LMDB or SLD. To do this, go back to Administration -> Details -> Data in your SLD and check the updated version of your CIM model and CR content. You should see the new version number and date of installation. For example, if you imported CR content 2020_06_1, you should see CIM model 1.6.37 and CR content 2020_06_1 with the date of import.

The following screenshot shows an example of an SLD administration page with the updated version:

SLD administration page with updated version

You can also check the import log for any errors or warnings that may have occurred during or after the import. To do this, go to Administration -> Data Supplier -> Import Log in your SLD and select the file that you imported. You can see the details of the import, such as the start time, end time, status, and messages. If you see any errors or warnings, you can click on them to get more information and possible solutions.

The following screenshot shows an example of an import log with no errors or warnings:

How to Download SAP CR Content

If you are using SAP products, such as SAP Solution Manager, you may need to update your SAP Component Repository (CR) Content from time to time.

  • And much more…

SAP releases new versions of SAP CR Content periodically to reflect changes in its product portfolio and support new features and functionalities. Therefore, it is recommended that you update your SAP CR Content regularly to ensure that you have the latest information available.

How to Check the Current Version of SAP CR Content

The first step before downloading and importing SAP CR Content is to check your current version. To do this, you need to access your SLD, which is a central repository of information about your system landscape. Depending on your system configuration, you may have one or more SLDs in your landscape. You can access your SLD using a web browser with this URL: http://:/sld, where and are the hostname and port number of your SLD server.

Once you are in your SLD, go to Administration -> Details -> Data. Here you can see the current version of your CIM model and CR content, as well as the date of installation. The CIM model is a standard that defines how system landscape information is structured and represented. The CR content is based on the CIM model and contains specific information about SAP components.

The following screenshot shows an example of an SLD administration page with CIM model 1.6.37 and CR content 2019_03_1:

How to Download SAP CR Content

If you are using SAP products, such as SAP Solution Manager, you may need to update your SAP Component Repository (CR) Content from time to time.

How

How to Download the Latest SAP CR Content from SAP Support Portal

The next step is to download the latest SAP CR Content from the SAP Support Portal. To do this, you need to have a valid SAP user ID and password, as well as an active maintenance contract for your SAP products. You can access the SAP Support Portal using this URL: https://support.sap.com/en/index.html.

Once you are in the SAP Support Portal, go to Software Downloads -> Installation and Upgrades -> Browse Our Download Catalog -> SAP Technology Components -> System Landscape Directory -> SLD CR CONTENT. Here you can see the available files for downloading SAP CR Content.
