The volatile keyword is used when the use of a variable might not be immediately visible. In Java, the varibles are loaded in order, and loaded by the compiler on one thread and only then are set for use. So there is a race condition between the two threads.
Also, only reading the variable in the other thread should be enough to solve the problem. It should not need volatile.
A static variable declared in the parent thread will still be visible to the child thread, as the variable is local to the thread.
int myStaticVariables = 0; // this is visible to the child thread
Thread childThread = new Thread(() -> myStaticVariables = 1);
childThread.start();
