Most people will find that it is easier to use Illustrator, but Photoshop will always be the best at what it does, because its layout is so unique and powerful. If you have never made a design in Photoshop, I would highly suggest that you download the free trial version called Photoshop CS3 and take the plunge. You do not have to buy it unless you begin making them very often, which is not the case for you if you are a beginner, as it is very complicated. It will take time to learn but in the end, you will look back on this lesson and laugh at how such a small program can be so powerful.

To create a black and white or sepia photo with Photoshop CS5, select Enhance > Adjust Color > Levels to access the Levels palette. Click the small triangle next to the black and white box and choose Black and White to make the black and white areas of your photo darker.

With the Levels palette open, click the box next to the Grey (0%) level to make changes. Then, click the box next to the Black level in the lower left corner to darken just the black areas of your photo.

To ensure you have the right Levels settings, click the Black point Sign next to the Levels triangle so that you can see the percentage value of the Black level. When the photo appears dark, the number should be pretty close to 100%.

If you wish to create a form template in Photoshop CS5, start with a basic shape. Once you have created that, the Shape Layers panel allows you to create more shapes and re-arrange the existing ones. This feature will help you create a form with more layers than in a traditional approach.

When creating a form, you may want to use shadows, so that the final image looks more three-dimensional. Start by creating a simple shape outline. Next, you can add text to the form by using the Type tool at top of the toolbox. Style the text using the Character panel in the Tools palette to change font type (most styles are covered here), font size, font family, and alignment.

The application often requires the use of a plug-in for features not present in the standard edition. Plug-ins are sometimes also downloadable from Adobe’s website.
