I always loved it how you could magnify an image by moving your wedge tool into the canvas. You could then click anywhere to place the new magnification. Unfortunately, this function seems to have left the Adobe software island.

PS CS5 also introduced some interesting tools to make large areas of color the same. You could choose from a gradient or one of many other line art styles. Now, you can simply pick anywhere in an image and a line will be placed in that exact spot. All Photoshop has to do is put a line at your chosen point, and it will copy the color of the surrounding area as the new line color.

There are a few things that aren’t as good in Photoshop CC as they were in Photoshop CS5. The bad stuff is not that bad if you don’t need the more advanced features, but there are definitely some bugs that are under the surface.

Pantone Color Matching is gone (However, you can still get a free color certification in order to match the over 1,000 colors in the Pantone line). You’ll need to use Photoshop CS6 (Pantone Color Matching is a stand-alone function in the 2012 version). The only real reason to use Pantone Matching is to print Pantone colors from your files, so this is a small loss. That said, you can still match Pantone CMYK colors using ICC profiles with Lightroom.

One thing I haven’t been able to figure out is how to put a mask on specific scenes in the image. I’ve tried grouping a bunch of individual layers, but when I bring my mask into the group and do any kind of editing on the layer, it disappears from the group.

But, in 2020 plus, Lightroom+ can tell you the data compression rate and the least data that the most compressed image has used. Photoshop can do this for the original image before it even opens, so you don’t need to open your file. If you are working on a large file, you may want to give that a shot.

After you are done, use the File > Export command to move your file into Photoshop for any more edits you may want to make. If you have files you don’t need anymore, you can use Adobe Elements on an external hard drive to permanently delete your images once you are finished with editing. You can eject the drive and replace it with any other drive to keep the original files safe and sound.

I had to purchase the CS5 version for obvious reasons. However, I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t have to! Adobe has been very good to me for the last 10 years. In fact, my Photoshop 7 is still going strong and will continue to be so even though there is an update coming for the program.

I am using Adobe Lightroom 4.3.0 and I am pleased with it however when I create a preset file and any photo in my library is redefined the edit has to be removed then added again (or I have to delete the edit). I found a way though that is very easy to use and it is in my workflow. When I am happy with an alignment I duplicate the photo and place it in the new photo editing screen of Lightroom using my D800. I then do the alignment I want and then join the photos. Very easy to use!

I switched from PS CS4 to CS5, in which I was happy, but a few things didn’t feel right. While the target monitor for the resolution of the picture I was working on there wasn’t that small hard-to-discover feature.

Version history shows the status of your document in a panel at the bottom of the app. The panel has only a small number of actions — Import, Export, Copy, and Merge — so it’s easy to jump directly to a desired state. If you’ve saved the document as a Cloud Document, you’ll also find that name in the Version History panel.

New Actions are instantly available during the review process. For example, if you had a layer named Art Direction, you’d be able to immediately edit that layer using the Art Direction tool from the Actions panel.
