The release of Windows 7 came with several new features. For example, Windows 7 Home Premium is a version that was released to the public. Obviously, this is the version of the Windows system that you can use to run programs on your home computer. It includes some features that are not found in Windows 7 Professional .
Windows 7 Professional can be used to run programs on an office computer and can be further upgraded to run programs that are required for businesses. The Professional version of Windows includes some features that are not found in Home Premium, such as Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Office, and more. These features are not available in Home Premium, and you can use the Home Premium version of the software for personal use. Most of the time, the features that are available for Home Premium are limited. For example, Microsoft Office Professional is only available in a Professional version. The Home version is limited to basic features.
Photographers who fall into this category will want to look at the Basic Panel. When you mouse over the Basic panel, you can drag it and drop it on to the photo you’re working on. The panel cannot be dragged outside of the photo itself (it behaves like an independent piece of content), but it behaves differently in Adobe Photoshop, so you need to choose either Photoshop or Elements. If you’re new to Elements, the new panel is just as useful.
In addition to the standard CMYK colors – yellow, cyan, magenta, black – you now have a Process Color option where you can spend time making your favorite color of the rainbow. Last, you can now immediately see your image’s color histogram to determine the relative distributions of the four colors within the CMYK color system. I’m still tweaking the steps, but this is a really nice new feature to see in practice.
In Photoshop, your layers are your actual photos. You can move them around without any real repercussions. If you want to do that from another program or device, it’s “Layer Mover” to the rescue. You can even set the layer’s Opacity to 0 to remove it. This allows you to “flatten” a layer (to ensure the layer’s contents aren’t in other layers) with find-and-replace distinct from the “Replace All” command. It’s quite handy for extracting elements from (or isolating elements from) one layer into another.
Many actions, including the Highlight Shadows and Highlight Midtones actions for the Shadows and Midtones panel are now built in. However, you need to turn them on in the Actions panel. You can apply them to any image or mask in a single click and continue to edit them for multiple elements without losing your work.
Under the hood of any photo editing program, you’ll find layers, which is a way to organize the content of your photo into groups. It supports selections even on the layer. This is critical because it can help you create and modify the way your photo looks.
Simplify your workflow by using smart object. It is similar to the old-school clipping mask, but much more convenient. A smart object provides more flexibility and control than a traditional clipping mask. Instead of having to create a clipping mask before you apply it, you can simply drag and drop the smart object to replace any background layer. Just remember that the smart object doesn’t normally affect the background layer outside of the bounds of the smart object. It’s a perfect solution for images that need borders.
