Below, you will notice that I have a big, green question mark in my review. That’s because while I love this software as a whole, there have been serious growing pains with it since its newest release. Ever since the most recent retail release (Elements 10), it has become extremely glitchy. The bugs are not worth mentioning here, but browsing the web, one will find hundreds of reports about this very problem. I’ve tried to avoid them, but I’m sure they will continue releasing to Adobe and, in the future, this might stop being a problem, but for now, I believe we have to talk about the issues surrounding this problem.

The behavior I’m referring to is that, if you go to the Library module to open a new file while working with a file, Photoshop Elements creates a duplicate file instead of opening a new one. Not only is this a very annoying bug, it also causes the program to behave in strange ways and often cause endless loops. So much so that I have uninstalled it from my computer completely. Moreover, I also experienced the memory hogging issue, which seems to have got worse since the last upgrade. With all these issues, Photoshop Elements 10 is absolutely not worth buying.

Perhaps the biggest problem I experienced with the hardware included with the Fujifilm X30 was the inability to handle RAW files automatically. After switching it to the Silkypix RAW converter (although this works its best with images initially taken as JPEGs), it’s giving me some unexpected results. I called Adobe Technical Support, and unfortunately, they covered a third party program (Fuji’s) and not the Corel or Adobe of Adobe Photoshop. They were stumped upon my request for support. I told them that the program they covered was very bad and suggested that they support the Adobe program instead. They finally said that they couldn’t help me either because they didn’t have the rights to do so. So, I’m stuck using a really bad RAW converter until I find some altmative RAW converter (no Nikon or Canon RAW converter is working for me) or fix my own way RAW program.

What It Does: When using the Spot Healing Brush tool, you can select the desired area and use it to remove unwanted objects from your canvas. This tool works by comparing the color in a regular color to the neighbor pixels to determine the contrast or the brightness in color. If the pixels are off, it either lightens or darkens the color in the target area to match the surrounding area.

With a few clicks you can save an image to the clipboard as an optimized format. In addition, you have the option to save the format as a high resolution (1,500 pixels and up), a reduced resolution (600 pixels and up) or as an optimized JPEG. Once you save the format, you can paste into your design apps and use it as a final format.

With the new Photoshop Layers feature you can easily see multiple layers and their properties. Individual layers can be deleted, moved, or turned off, while using layer properties reveals information such as filter type, styles, colors, or layer type. You can even adjust the opacity of individual layers.

Enhancements to the Auto Trace feature include an option to run the automatic feature on a specified layer, the user can set keyframe intervals, and there is new support for Auto Trace on animated sequences.
