Continuum is a painting/moving image technique with a continuous motion path between the start and end frames. Boris Continuum allows editing of both the main basis path between end frame and start frame as well as the interpolation between frames the camera could see.
The basic idea of motion graphics is the use of a continuous motion path. This path can be graphical or matrix based. An example of this is a motion banner that goes from left to right, as a 2D path and then we move the camera to the right. With the start and end frames defined, the path is made and now we place all the different elements in the right places. There is the basis of the path, as well as the interpolation (the frame percentage of the motion banner to be seen by the camera). Behind the scenes, we basically do the same thing with the resulting frames of the path, and work from the middle frame of the path, where the camera is, to the end frame. In the end, we have a smooth animation in which our elements proportionally move along the path.
If you export a BMC movie from TC, it will be a 3D animation. That’s because the tracker follows a point, not a vector. For those who are not familiar with the terms “track” and “vector”, it basically means that you have to be in a grid space, i.e. follow points in a grid, and not follow paths. When using Path or Vector tools, the panel shows the paths between frame 1 and frame 2. However, when using the Tracker, the panel shows the movement of a single point between 2 frames.
