CubicTest was developed to be a graphical Eclipse plug-in for writing Selenium and Watir tests. It makes web tests faster and easier to write, and provides abstractions to make tests more robust and reusable.
CubicTest’s test editor is centered around pages/states and transitions between these pages/states. The model is intuitive for both Ajax and traditional web applications and supports most user interaction types.
CubicTest features an innovative test recorder and test runner based on Selenium RC which are fully integrated with the graphical test editor. Tests can also run standalone from Maven 2.

OVERVIEW

CubicTest is a toolkit for writing automated regression tests. A test is represented in CubicTest as a group of pages that are linked together by transitions. A transition can be invoked by pressing a keyboard shortcut, clicking on an element, or using a gesture.
The test editor is centered around pages and states that are linked by transitions. Pages are named elements, and states are composed of properties that can be set by page-setters.
Examples:
– Change the value of a select box
– Click the ‘Next’ button
– Enter ‘Apple’ in the text box
– Wait for 3 seconds
– Click the ‘Previous’ button
– Wait for 5 seconds
– Check the page title
Pages can be composed of several states. All states are visible in the editor, but only a single state is selected at any given time. States can be collapsed to see the transitions between them. States can also be switched using keyboard shortcuts.

What’s New In CubicTest?

CubicTest supports all the features of Selenium RC, but with full Java support and additional abstractions:

* Test states are represented as Java classes. For example, a login page could have a Login state and a LoginSuccess state.
Each state has a public method called onComplete(), which, when called, the state is considered to be completed.

* Transitions are represented by instances of Transition objects. These abstract the logic of when a state’s onComplete() method is called. An example transition is an ‘after’ transition, which means that the next state in the transition must be executed after the current state.

* Once a state is created, each transition in the state is attached. This means that, for example, the state could have an “after” transition with the next page. If the test completes normally, the next page will be executed.

* We are currently working on an OSGI support for CubicTest, which will allow for support of remote machines as Selenium RC servers.
