“It wasn’t like a sucker punch,” he says. “I mean, I was shocked. I was speechless. Like I said, I’d never had an issue before. I’d never had a conversation before. I remember sitting there, looking at my phone, trying to call my mom. I didn’t know what to do.

He tried to move on by embracing the love of his new hometown.
“I moved here and opened a restaurant and started making a lot of friends,” he says. “I had no intention of doing it. But I would go to work every day and people would be like, ‘I love your tie, I love your jacket, you’re really wearing it.’
“And it was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, that’s amazing. I love you. You’re my friend. I never expected that. I’m so happy. Thank you so much. This is amazing.'”
Ultimately, what Kevin is learning is that not only is he good at basketball, but he’s good at life.
“I don’t think I had a moment in the past where I felt like I had control over my life,” he says. “I just always felt like I was on my own. But in these last two years, I’ve felt so blessed that I’ve had my brother’s back. I’ve had people’s back, the coaches’ back, our administration’s back, our fans’ back.
