The program performs much better on a Mac, because Adobe Bridge as well as Photoshop itself are optimized for Macs. That said, more RAM is often a good choice if you intend to edit large numbers of images. I mostly edit RAW files and prefer a program that allows me to keep a fair amount of RAM free. Note that I was able to edit 5 GB of photos in Lightroom 5 in the provided RAM of 6 GB. I’m sure, with 8 GB, I could edit much more.
I just started experimenting with what I have to do in Photoshop to correct a RAW file’s color. I found Photoshop does a better job than Lightroom does to correct a RAW file’s colors if you have a good understanding of RAW files and their color characteristics. A good example of my powerlessness to deal with RAW files is the workflow I followed to make the screen shot below.
