The present invention is related to a magnetic head that can be suitably used for, for example, a magnetic disk drive, and more particularly, to a magnetic head in which a reproduction output from a thin-film magnetic head element is preferably set, and a method for manufacturing the same.
2. Description of the Related Art
In a magnetic disk drive, a magnetic head floats above a recording surface of a magnetic disk rotating at high speed. In order to read data from a recording surface, the magnetic head is provided with a read head element and a write head element.
The read head element records information signals that are expressed in terms of variations in magnetic flux, and reads the recorded information signals as variations in electrical resistance.
The write head element records information signals using a phenomenon in which information can be stored in the phase of magnetic domains in a magnetic layer, that is, a phenomenon in which the direction of magnetization is reversed in a magnetic layer by an application of an external magnetic field.
With the increase in capacity of a magnetic disk drive, a track pitch on a recording surface has been reduced to a micro-level, and the read head element for reading information signals from a magnetic disk as variations in electrical resistance and the write head element for writing information signals onto a magnetic disk as a variation in magnetic flux density have been miniaturized to a nano-level.
The miniaturization of the read head element and the write head element is difficult from the viewpoint of manufacturing technology. In particular, in the miniaturization of the write head element, the distribution of a magnetic field generated from a magnetic pole is not easy to control in an early stage of the manufacturing process, and this leads to a problem in that the track width of the write head element is excessively narrow or excessive heat is generated in a magnetic domain of the write head element.
