In my opinion they are far quicker and more effective than their separate adjustments that have to be set manually inside Photoshop. You can choose from among a wide array of preset adjustments organized according to a particular category.

You might also find it quicker to make changes instead of using the Adjustments panel. For example, let’s say that you want to apply a vignette to a photo that has a strong blue sky. You can do this with one or more of the various “outside” effects listed on the panel. The slider controls the amount of vignette, or darkening effect, which can be applied. If you drag it to the right, the effect becomes stronger.

Like the entry-level variant of its flagship Photoshop product, Adobe Photoshop Elements is a bit more uncluttered than its premium cousin. This is especially true of its simplified version of the Layers panel, which is also included in Elements. Though Elements is a capable image editor, it’s designed to appeal to novice users who aren’t ready to venture into the deeper features of Photoshop yet. The Elements image editor requires 10.6 or later and runs in Mac OS X 10.6 or later.

Luckily for those who need to stay current with the latest features, Adobe periodically releases new versions of Photoshop Elements, which can usually be purchased and installed on a Mac through the Mac App Store. You can also upgrade directly from one version of Elements to the next as long as you’re using the same OS. The latest, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12, was released earlier this year.

When it comes to mobile editing, Elements is one of the best programs for tools and effects that a smartphone or tablet can offer, but it lacks the more demanding features of a desktop-based image-editing app. Elements is designed for consumers who don’t have professional graphic design or page layout experience. It’s good for a quick fix, but not a long-term solution for serious work.
