The video surfaced on August 5, 2014 showing 21-year-old Mohammad Monor Bhat being killed at a CRPF camp in Dantewada district in the east.

5 The incidents which triggered the protests have seen the death of more than 40 people and the displacement of more than 400,000 people. These incidents have occurred after the alleged use of ‘sarin’ nerve gas by the Indian forces in the area in May.

The incident occurred when sarin-injected attackers entered the camp and fired indiscriminately at the protestors, resulting in the killing of 42 men, women and children in Balipara, and wounds to 58 more.

In response, people living near the camps set fire to railway tracks, cut off road access to the camps, and tried to enter the camps to save the victims.

5 The central government has also blamed this attack on Maoist rebels, who are active in parts of the area, for their use of banned weapons to attack the government and civilians.

The purported video of the event was posted on Facebook on August 5, 2014. It shows a group of protestors, including women and children, with their hands tied, and people pouring oil on their bodies, apparently before shooting them.

“About 10-12 CRPF personnel were in their tents near the egress of the camp. Suddenly, two men came towards them carrying a bottle. About five to seven of them were in their tents. They opened fire and started to kill the men inside the tents one by one. But this was caught on mobile phone camera,” one of the policemen said.

“Since the cameras were within a short distance of the incident, it is quite clear that the two who opened fire are our security guards.”

Four men have been arrested in connection with the attack, and a lawyer representing some of the victims has said their clients are demanding the arrest of the security guards.

“We demand the arrest of the armed guards who fired at the protestors and a fair investigation into the killing of the protestors,” Yadheswar Tiwari, a lawyer representing some of the victims, told a news conference.
