Programatically alter IIS application pool settings (serviceAccountKey and serviceAccountUsername)
I’m trying to figure out how to programatically set IIS settings on a web application using powershell.
I know that I can find the settings in the registry via the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebServer\Parameters\AppPools\DefaultAppPool
However, I want to change them in the DefaultAppPool section to allow impersonation on the site. So I want to set “ServiceAccountKey” and “ServiceAccountUsername”. I’m looking at the Win32_IISSetting WMI class and can’t seem to figure out how to access the values I need.
I see a bit of documentation at “setting site pool parameters” – but that seems to use the registry (although I could be mistaken).

You should use the parameter registry and the IISConstants class to get the default value for the service account key:

$parameters = [IISConstants]::GetDefaultParameters()
$parameters.serviceAccountKey = (Get-ItemPropertyValue -Path ‘HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebServer\Parameters\AppPools\DefaultAppPool’ -Name DefaultServiceAccountKey).Value
