You use it to simulate normal situations on the ground. Exercises, keeping the aircraft under control, practicing taxiing and takeoff, etc. But you can also fly the aircraft normally. In this mode, you can fly the aircraft at any altitude, including rising to take-off.
In the default setting, if you input the name of an airport, the model will fly a flight plan to the destination. Alternatively, you can input a starting and destination location and the aircraft will fly that route with an option to automatically climb to a particular flight level for the ascent. If you leave the “ascent method” field empty, the aircraft will take off from runway when the conditions are right (depressed or threshold an airfield is specified as the takeoff location).
You are free to use the aircraft anytime. But if you ever want to let someone else take over your sim, you can use the ‘Put Me On’ option. If you wish to take the aircraft out again to give it some attention, you can use the ‘Transfer Flight Control’ option to stop the simulation. You can apply any available aircraft to the aircraft you are using. If you remove the aircraft, and have the ‘Put Me On’ option enabled, the aircraft will begin its normal run after a short delay – this is to prevent you from overusing the aircraft.
Use the built-in Airways chart to plan your flights. Fly at low altitude in order to avoid entering the various areas displayed on the map. These areas include shipping lanes, tidal currents and the polar aurora. Any areas that are not greyed out are also visible to the aircraft. If you fly into a marine current, the aircraft will automatically turn away from the current.
You can choose to send messages when flying. You can choose to send the message at an airport that is displayed on the map, or you can choose to have the aircraft send a message with its location whenever it changes location.
