sqlite3migrate – changing foreign keys
My situation is this:
I have a rails app with migrations for a development database and two environment specific databases. The development database has migrations for version 1 of the app and the two other databases already have migrations from version 2.
I want to change the foreign keys in the models for the development database, which is now version 2, to use the versions 1 and 2 foreign keys. So, for instance, the columns for post_id in table users in the development database would become references to the post_id’s of version 1 and version 2 of the app.
I did this by manually copying the changes from one migration to the other. This is a tedious process, though, and I’d like to automate the process for all of the tables.
I’m aware of the sqlite3migrate gem, but I haven’t been able to figure out how to use it to generate the appropriate migration code. I really want to migrate the schema to version 3 of the app, so I don’t have a migration file that increments the migration count.
Does anyone know how to use this gem to change the foreign keys in the database?
My goal is to avoid editing the migrations and manually copying the code between each migration, but I can’t figure out how to do that.

You can migrate the schema to the 2nd version using sqlite3migrate -m 1 to move all the code to the new version.
Then you can apply the changes and convert the tables to the new format using sqlite3migrate -m 2 to convert the old to the new format.
Please be careful with the order of the operations.
