Chu Wing is in love with Ip’s daughter. Ip secretly arranges for his son to be adopted into a Ching household to avoid the potentially embarrassing public humiliation of his two daughters getting involved with Ip’s son. Ip has Chu Wing accompany the Sang family back to the village to train his son. Meanwhile, Chu Wing secretly marries his much older Vietnamese teacher.
The Fight Begins…Ip Man pummels a downed gangster three times before he engages in a hand to hand combat. Ip Man requires large amounts of money for his son to get enough schooling to compete in the World Karate Championships. While serving a 2-year sentence for his crime, Wing Chun visits Ip and tells him that the martial arts are an effective way to protect oneself against prison brutality. He also promises to convince the gang leader to accept Ip Man’s offer. Ip Man and his family head for Hong Kong to accept Ching’s offer…
When an early film of Swan Song uses Ip Man’s techniques, Ip Man is knocked out cold by a blow to the chest, is badly beaten and eventually lets himself be arrested. The Chinese government refuses to issue him a visa to enter the US. To gain an entry visa, he requests the creation of a bank account. Ip Man then gets a note passed to him, showing that an unknown bank manager has access to a bank account with $20million. Ip Man also receives messages to meet a local gangster at a Jim Thompson store in Hoi An, Vietnam. A local policeman sets the trap for the gangster and Ip Man. As soon as he has the money, Ip Man makes the arrangements to depart Vietnam. Meanwhile, the gangster plots to kill the policeman.
Jackie Chan is part of a team of karate students who follow a 1000- year-old Chinese sacred scroll. The team are challenged by a band of 18th century pirates, led by an orchid hunter. Chan also tags along when Ho Wing is kicked out of the restaurant he owns. Ip Man and company arrive back in Hong Kong after boxeefest.
This second reboot continues the story about Ip Man (Donnie Yen), a Wing Chun master who led the clan of Wun Chuen in the late 19th century and is now trained into a deadly weapon in an unauthorized fight in a crowded street, resulting in the death of a bystander. He decides to leave for America, get revenge for his family, and eventually resume his kung fu training.
