But we have to be careful about that the magnetic field is only affecting those particles with a certain spin, and we also have to have an atom that is free from external electric or magnetic fields (like a beam of laser) in order to be able to measure the spin of the atom.

Velocity of the atom:
You can choose the velocity of the atom. If you don’t do this, the atom will be at rest in the beginning of the Stern-Gerlach Experiment.

You can choose what to do with the X, Y and Z components of the magnetic field.

What’s New In Stern-Gerlach Experiment?

The simulation will allow the user to enter the maximum value of their maximal spin. The screen will show an X-axis or horizontal direction (along the maximum value of spin entered), a Y-axis or vertical direction (perpendicular to the X-axis) and an H-axis or imaginary direction. The H-axis will be a line between the X- and Y-axes.

Using a device called a Stern-Gerlach Device, the user can apply a magnetic field and a current to a beam of atoms. The magnetic field in the X-axis is directed downwards, the magnetic field in the Y-axis is directed upwards, and the magnetic field in the H-axis is towards the top of the page.

The users will be asked to enter the value of the magnetic field in terms of units of a measure called the Tesla (abbreviated tesla or T). This is the unit of measurement of the strength of a magnetic field. The result of the simulation should agree with that given in the textbook A neutron is an atom with half-integer spin that has its nucleus spinning around its own axis.

Stern-Gerlach Effect is one of the earliest and best known experiments to illustrate the fundamental property of particles called spin. However, it is not the first one.

In 1925 Robert Edwards of UCL won the Nobel Prize for discovering the electron spin in the photoelectric effect. For a detailed account of his work see the book by A. Pines and G.
