I reached out to some of the admins there and asked them to create for us some “master” articles, explaining each new feature and its uses, and any issues that we may run into during our adventures with the new Adobe software.

These articles are simple tutorials (when it comes to learning), well thought through, comprehensive and laden with helpful tips. If you are serious or just getting started, they are the ones to go to.

The first thing to say about Photoshop Sketch is that it marks the first time that Adobe has brought a stylus-based Photoshop to the tablet world. We’re used to artists combining vectors and photography in Photoshop, together with the extended range of shape tools that only sketch apps can allow. Sketch has proved popular with beginning and intermediate users because, unusually, it lets you capture, sketch or clean up final images from start to finish. It’s a genuinely novel experience.

This tool is also called a “filter” and there is a very powerful tool named “Curves” for performing precise manipulations of color. The strength of a curve can be adjusted by dragging its left or right edge. Applications such as Adobe Photoshop can easily lock the color relationships of the image by using curves. The actual adjustments you make are visible in a “curve” — a graph that tells you the color relationships between different color spots in the image.

The tools found in Edit ’> Presets are user-defined groups of settings that are much faster and easier to use than setting a complex adjustment seven times. In my opinion they are far quicker and more effective than their separate adjustments that have to be set manually inside Photoshop. You can choose from among a wide array of preset adjustments organized according to a particular category.

You might also find it quicker to make changes instead of using the Adjustments panel. For example, let’s say that you want to apply a vignette to a photo that has a strong blue sky. You can do this with one or more of the various “outside” effects listed on the panel. The slider controls the amount of vignette, or darkening effect, which can be applied. If you drag it to the right, the effect becomes stronger.

It can upgrade to Creative Cloud membership. If you don’t have it already, it’s necessary to sign up for it. You will be required to provide a credit card or other payment information. Adobe’s terms of agreement are very reasonable and it’s very easy to cancel if you so desire. Some of the advantages of purchasing from Creative Cloud are:

Video editing has long been a speciality of Adobe, and the company has been looking for a way to break into that market, in spite of its expertise. The result is the Premiere Rush standalone app, which sits somewhat awkwardly between the other Adobe products. It offers basic video editing, but it’s not as polished or full featured as Premiere Pro.

There are many creative software packages to choose from, and PCWorld’s Editors’ Choice award winner is Adobe Photoshop Elements 8. Like the entry-level variant of its flagship Photoshop product, Adobe Photoshop Elements is a bit more uncluttered than its premium cousin. This is especially true of its simplified version of the Layers panel, which is also included in Elements. Though Elements is a capable image editor, it’s designed to appeal to novice users who aren’t ready to venture into the deeper features of Photoshop yet. The Elements image editor requires 10.6 or later and runs in Mac OS X 10.6 or later.

Luckily for those who need to stay current with the latest features, Adobe periodically releases new versions of Photoshop Elements, which can usually be purchased and installed on a Mac through the Mac App Store. You can also upgrade directly from one version of Elements to the next as long as you’re using the same OS. The latest, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12, was released earlier this year.

When it comes to mobile editing, Elements is one of the best programs for tools and effects that a smartphone or tablet can offer, but it lacks the more demanding features of a desktop-based image-editing app. Elements is designed for consumers who don’t have professional graphic design or page layout experience. It’s good for a quick fix, but not a long-term solution for serious work.

3D Design and Development: A major change in Photoshop’s future releases, aside from the removal of 3D graphics tools, will be a major shift in the way 3D content is designed. When planning to create 3D assets with Photoshop CC 2019, new features will be built around a 3D-centric workflow that will include editing 3D content using new tools and features, including the ability to manipulate 3D materials in non-destructive fashion. As part of the new 3D features, users will be able to add 3D Sketch-Up Auto Layouts to their artwork. When editing 3D content, users will primarily use the new 3D tools, including non-destructive workflow features, such as 3D Brush and 3D Custom Shape. Users will be able to bring Photoshop’s 2D vector and raster path tools to 3D assets to create 2D elements that can be edited in 3D space. Users will be able to create a 3D perspective project from scratch. Users will be able to import models, folders, and other assets into 3D projects. 3D modeling tools, such as sculpting, will be included in the 3D section of the toolbox. Images that can be inserted into 3D scenes will be able to be viewed in their 2D and 3D state simultaneously. Users will be able to click on a 2D element and have it expand into a 3D element. Elements will support basic 3D functions, such as localizing 3D content and inserting and manipulating 3D objects, without the need to “plane” them. In the future, Adobe will enhance these powerful 3D workflow features with additional features, including real-time integration with other Creative Cloud apps, such as the addition of 3D Sketches to the 3D Autocad file format, as well as the ability to import 3D scenes from Autodesk 3DS Max.
