It is known that physics isn’t the easiest science to study. Even the some of the topics considered more accessible, such as forces, can give some pupils headaches. This is why physics teachers should have a lot of patience, but also the means to take their lessons accessible to everyone.
Educational apps represent a solution that all disciplines (not only physics) can benefit from, but today we’ll be taking a look at The Ramp, a Java-animated simulation that can help you learn about forces.
Get ready to push
If you’re familiar with the applications developed by PhET Interactive Simulations (of the University of Colorado), then you could consider The Ramp a sort of sequel to Forces in 1 Dimension. If you liked the adventures of the wooden mannequin pushing stuff, then get ready as he faces a much bigger obstacle. You guessed it, it’s the ramp.
Once again you get to move household items of various masses in order to analyze the forces at work. You’ll be able to push and crash a file cabinet, a refrigerator, a piano, a heavy crate and an unsuspecting poor sleepy dog (which, again, continues to just be sleepy through the whole process).
However, this time you also have the ramp (which, by the way, has an adjustable angle), which means that some of the heavier objects may fall back and crush our hero (the wooden mannequin, in case you forgot). You even have the option to cool the ramp (so you can analyze the friction properly, I suppose). When you click that option, a dog dressed as firefighter will come out of nowhere and spray the ramp with water. Yes, really!
A fun application
There’s little doubt that the devs had a lot of fun with this one, but the physics part isn’t ignored at all. You get a lot of graphs and other tools that can help you determine and measure all the forces involved in the mayhem. It’s easy to recommend The Ramp to all the physics teachers who want their classes a bit more fun.

Implementing a well-planned Electronic Design Contest (EDC) in an elementary school can be very beneficial for students, as well as for the design team. This article will go into the different ways the team can approach developing a student project, and it will share insights from the implementation of one of these ideas in a high school.

Recently I went to an open house for my district’s STEM fair. There were two different open houses for the local community and one for the middle school. While attending the open house for the middle school, I was able to meet with a middle school physics teacher who was interested in hosting an EDC at his school. I spent a couple of hours with him, talking about the different ways in which he could implement a well-planned EDC into his middle school. With the many years of experience I have with EDC and Design Thinking, I was able to see a couple of ideas he had come up with.

One idea we looked at was having a full-day tour of two local businesses to interact with them. The idea being that the middle school students could enter the design competition on the first day of school and see what the physicality of working for a business looks like. They would then be asked to create an idea based around what they have learned. They would submit their design to the district’s STEM fair on the second day, where they would go up against design teams from around the country.

The other idea he had was creating a hackathon where teams could compete to create the best solution to a problem. The problem they were given was related to computers, but it was something that the students would be able to explore and try to build something to solve. They would be asked to submit their idea to the middle school EDC. In this hackathon, the middle school students would have the opportunity to create something that is extremely valuable to the technology community.

Here are some other ideas I shared with him and some things to keep in mind before implementing an EDC

A great physics app for the iPad is Abracadabra. It’s the successor of Minkis and Physics Lab on the iPad. Both are physics games, but they have a completely different approach to the subject, which is why some people may prefer one or another.
Abracadabra is a physics puzzle game where you’ll have to create the most impressive snowflakes in the world. This will be done by manipulating the points of mass placed in the snowflakes. You’ll control them by touching them in order to influence the shape and size of the snowflake. The app also lets you manage a score that will be saved on your device.
To create a snowflake, you’ll have to drag and drop points (known as “particles”) on the screen. Then, if you need to, you can edit the points individually (by modifying their location, size and mass) so that they form a complex structure.
Fun physics challenge
It might not be that much fun to build snowflakes in all their complexity, but you can even save the game and play it later to see if you’ve improved. And since Abracadabra is a pretty addictive game, you might even discover that it’s possible to generate some great snowflakes in a very short time.
And it’s not just a game to create snowflakes. There are also challenges to solve, like one where you have to move particles from the bottom to the top of the screen, and another where you have to move the particles around the edge of the screen.
You also have the possibility of placing obstacles that will have a negative impact on the snowflake, like a wall or even a gap. And if you fail, you can always try again.
Abracadabra Description:
Abracadabra is a physics puzzle game for the iPad. It’s a bit like Minkis and Physics Lab, but it has more features. So you’ll be able to use your fingers instead of a mouse to move the points around. This will let you create

The Ramp Product Key Full Free

The Ramp is a physics-based educational game for Java ME mobile devices that allows users to manipulate masses and forces to move objects. A fun and interactive way to learn about Newtonian mechanics.
The Ramp for Java ME applications are built with Java ME APK Toolkit 2.0.2
Requirements:
Java ME 2.0
Player’s Guide:
Summary:
Newton’s First Law of Motion (or the Law of Inertia) states that a body will remain at rest or continue to move in a straight line unless a force acts upon it. This application simulates the motion of objects according to Newton’s First Law by forcing a body (a) to hit a wall and (b) to hit another body to discover some features of a lot of forces at work.
Discover how to push and pull:
Use Newton’s Third Law to help your toy boy work out how to move. Determine the forces acting on your toy’s tip, handle, or other parts. Discover the behavior of objects depending on their mass.
Unravel the effects of gravity on objects:
Use Newton’s Laws to discover how gravity affects objects. Analyze the effects of mass and weight on other objects. Think about the effects of kinetic energy and kinetic friction on objects.
Learn about Newton’s second law:
Use Newton’s Second Law to understand the effects of applied force. Push and pull objects to discover more about how forces work.
Learn about the effects of friction:
Use Newton’s Laws to help you solve problems related to friction. Learn how friction is a manifestation of the contact forces of objects. Measure the friction of surfaces and objects using a friction wheel. Explore how friction works on a force.
Simplify equations for gravitational mass:
Use Newton’s Laws to find the mass of an object. Use the equation for the gravitational mass to help simplify expressions.
Using ramps:
Use the inclined ramp to understand the effects of gravity on objects. Experience Newton’s laws in action. Experiment with the ramp and how its angle affects the amount of force. Push the box with the ramp and find how friction causes it to slip and slide. Move heavy objects to study the effects of mass and inertia.
Learn about Newton’s laws of motion:
Use Newton’s Laws of Motion to help you study and analyze physical phenomena. Use Newton’s Laws of Motion to understand
